April 17th (out due to trip): Prompt: Political cartoons often use exaggeration and symbolism to make a point, and they can also serve as important visual sources for analysis. What is being criticized in this image? What does this source suggest about the issue, and what does the cartoonist want the audience to question or reconsider?

The cartoon is criticizing how political leaders can use foreign conflicts to distract from controversial domestic issues. In the image, the figure representing Donald Trump is pointing to an attack on Israel and drawing attention to it, while behind him an ICE officer is aggressively going after a figure representing Uncle Sam, who is being crushed by an elephant labeled “Big Beautiful Bill,” which likely refers to a major piece of legislation. This suggests that while the public’s attention is being directed toward international events, important or harmful actions are happening domestically that are not getting as much attention. The cartoonist wants the audience to question whether political leaders are intentionally shifting focus to avoid criticism and to reconsider what issues deserve more attention, especially those that directly impact people within the country. Summary: I learned to look deeper into political cartoons and try to find tiny details to help me understand it...

April 16th (out due to trip):

In the past, I usually just Googled a broad topic and clicked on whatever came up first, which did not always give me the most reliable or specific information. Creating specific search phrases is different because it makes you think more carefully about what you are actually trying to find, like using keywords related to mental health effects, studies, or specific conditions instead of just typing “plastic surgery.” This helps narrow down the results and brings up more credible sources like research articles instead of random websites. Using this strategy will improve the quality of my research because I will be finding more relevant and trustworthy information, which makes my overall argument stronger and more accurate. Summary: finding specific and reliable sources is very important  Reflection: We were supposed to leave at 5:30 in the morning but one but blew a brake line and the other blew a coolant hose. The busses eventually got here at almost one and we left. The bus ...

April 14th (out due to trip): Prompt: Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

My research topic is difficult to answer because the effects of plastic surgery on mental health are not the same for everyone and can vary a lot depending on the person and their situation. One perspective is that plastic surgery can improve confidence and self image, especially if someone has been insecure about something for a long time and finally feels better after changing it. Another perspective is that it can negatively affect mental health, especially for people who already struggle with low self esteem or conditions like body dysmorphia, since surgery does not fix the underlying issue and can lead to more dissatisfaction. These different viewpoints make the topic complex because both can be true, and understanding multiple perspectives is important so you do not oversimplify the issue and can better evaluate whether plastic surgery is actually helpful or harmful in different cases. reflection: I have so much band stuff this week and gotta try to manage my time better sum...

April 13th (out due to trip) Prompt: Reflect on your past experiences with research in school. What challenges have you faced when working independently or in a group, and how did you handle them? Explain how those experiences will influence the way you approach this current research project.

In past research projects, one challenge I have faced is staying organized and managing time, especially when working independently because it is easy to put things off until the last minute. In group projects, communication can also be an issue if not everyone is on the same page or contributing equally, which can make the work feel uneven. I usually handled these problems by breaking the assignment into smaller parts and focusing on one thing at a time, and in groups I tried to communicate clearly about what needed to be done. These experiences will influence how I approach this current research project by helping me stay more organized, start earlier, and make sure I am communicating better with my group so the work is more balanced and less stressful. Summary: We worked on stuff in class to prepare for a project Reflection: Im sorry these posts are this late, I jsut got around to it and have alot of stuff to make up and turn in.

April 30th-May 1st: Prompt: What strategies have you and your group used to ensure that all members are actively contributing to group assignments? Explain how you communicate, divide responsibilities, and hold each other accountable throughout the process.

One challenge my group faced was staying organized and keeping communication clear since all of our work was done on paper and not online. Because I missed two block classes, I fell behind and have not been able to see what the group has completed so far, which makes it hard to know exactly what we decided on for sources and analysis. This created some confusion for me about what I am supposed to contribute when I return. To handle this, I am planning to check in with my group as soon as I am back in class and go over everything I missed so I can catch up quickly. Going forward, I will make sure I stay more involved in group discussions and keep up with the work so I do not fall behind again and so I can contribute more consistently. reflection: Im not sure what happend Summary: im not really sure s

April 29th: Prompt: What challenges did your group face while selecting and analyzing sources, and how did you overcome them? Be specific about how your group communicated and worked through disagreements.

One challenge my group faced while selecting and analyzing sources was figuring out which ones were actually reliable and relevant since there was a lot of conflicting information about whether plastic surgery helps or harms mental health. Some sources focused more on positive outcomes while others emphasized the risks, so it was hard to decide what to include. We also had some disagreements about which sources were strong enough to use, especially when some looked good at first but were not very credible. To get through this, we talked things out and compared the evidence each source provided instead of just going off opinions. We mainly communicated in class and sometimes over messages, and we worked through disagreements by explaining our reasoning and coming to a compromise based on which sources had better data and were more trustworthy. Summary: I wasnt in class today, the starter in my truck went out (the fun of owning a 31 year old vehicle) Reflection: I learned how to rep...

April 27th: Prompt: Reflect on your research topic and identify the most compelling issue connected to it. Clearly explain what the issue is and discuss why you find it particularly interesting or important. Support your response with specific details from your research.

The most compelling issue I found while researching the effects of plastic surgery on mental health is how it can both help and hurt someone’s self image depending on their mindset going in. On one hand, some people report increased confidence and satisfaction after procedures, especially if they were fixing something that genuinely bothered them for a long time. But a lot of research shows that if someone already struggles with things like body dysmorphia or low self esteem, surgery does not fix the root problem and can sometimes make it worse, leading to repeated procedures or even more dissatisfaction. I think this is really important because it shows that plastic surgery is not just a physical decision, it is closely connected to mental health, and without dealing with that first, the results might not turn out the way people expect. Summary: Im not sure what we did in class since we had class for 2 days this week and I was not there. Reflection: My mom had car trouble and I h...
